Raw Whitby Jet Specimen
Whitby Jet is a popular gemstone found along the Yorkshire Coast. Formed from fossilised wood around 180 million years ago, it has been prized for centuries for its deep black colour, light weight, and ability to take a beautiful polish.
This is a raw, unpolished, naturally sea-rolled example collected from the Yorkshire Coast.
Scratch Test: Please use the scratch test images shown as a guide to the quality of the Whitby Jet you will receive. Generally, a richer chocolate brown streak is associated with higher-quality jet, whilst darker brown or black streaks may indicate lower-grade material. As a natural material, colour and quality can vary between specimens.
Age: Approximately 180 million years old.
