Rare Golden Polished Cannonball Nodule Half – Eleganticeras Ammonite – Whitby
Couldn't load pickup availability
A stunning half cannonball nodule containing a large Eleganticeras ammonite and a second tiny ammonite, with the natural pyrite surface carefully polished to reveal a beautiful golden finish.
Cannonball nodules are well-known fossils from the Whitby area, but finding them with enough pyrite preserved to produce this effect after polishing is becoming increasingly difficult. The pyrite outer surface is often worn away by years of exposure to the sea before the nodule is discovered.
This specimen has been carefully polished, a long and time-consuming process involving many hours of work to gradually bring out the smooth, golden pyrite surface. The result is a striking display piece with the ammonites preserved inside.
A fantastic Yorkshire Coast Jurassic fossil and a beautiful example of the famous cannonball nodules found around Whitby.
