These Steneosaurus crocodile scutes fossils were discovered on the famous Yorkshire Coast near Whitby, one of the most important Jurassic fossil locations in the United Kingdom.

Scutes are the bony armour plates that formed part of the protective skin of Jurassic crocodiles. These fossils come from marine crocodiles such as Steneosaurus, which lived in the ancient seas around 180 million years ago during the Jurassic period.

Crocodile fossils from the Yorkshire Coast are relatively rare compared with ammonites, making specimens like these excellent additions to collections of Jurassic marine reptile fossils from Whitby.
