Rare Black Ichthyosaur Bone Block – Jet Rock Yorkshire Coast Fossil

A rare black-coloured Ichthyosaur bone block, likely from the Jet Rock, containing a selection of fossilised bones including thick ribs, thinner bones and small paddle bones.

There also appear to be possible skull or eye plates within the block, along with some ammonites preserved around the Ichthyosaur material.

The dark colour of the fossilised bone is particularly striking and may be associated with preservation within the organic-rich Jet Rock.

A fascinating Yorkshire Coast Jurassic fossil, dating back around 180 million years, with a great variety of marine reptile material preserved together.
